AI-Powered Services and Data Processing

Joyology uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to support internal business analytics, including sales analysis, inventory management, and customer trend reporting. These AI-powered tools help our team make informed business decisions and improve the services we offer.

How AI Processes Data. Our AI systems analyze aggregated and de-identified sales, inventory, and operational data from our point-of-sale systems. When queries involve customer-related data, personally identifiable information — including names, email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth — is automatically masked or redacted before being transmitted to our AI service providers. This means our AI providers do not receive your full contact details or other sensitive personal information.

Third-Party AI Providers. We use Anthropic, LLC as our AI service provider. Anthropic processes data on our behalf subject to their data use policies, which prohibit the use of our data to train their AI models. We do not permit our AI providers to retain, sell, or share your personal information for any purpose other than providing services to Joyology.

Data Minimization. We apply data minimization principles to our AI processing. Our systems are designed to work with aggregated statistics and masked identifiers wherever possible, limiting the transmission of personally identifiable information to third-party processors. Customer names are reduced to initials, contact information is fully masked, and dates of birth are limited to birth year only.

No Automated Decision-Making. Our AI tools are used for analytics and reporting purposes only. We do not use AI to make automated decisions that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects on any individual customer.

Cannabis Customer and Patient Data

As a licensed cannabis retailer in the State of Michigan, Joyology collects and maintains certain customer information as required by state law and our point-of-sale operations. This may include your name, date of birth, contact information, purchase history, and customer type (medical or recreational).

Medical Patient Information. If you are a registered medical marijuana patient, we may collect and store information related to your patient status as required to verify your eligibility and comply with Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) regulations. We treat medical patient status as sensitive information and apply additional safeguards to its handling, including masking this information before any transmission to third-party service providers.

Regulatory Compliance. We report required sales and inventory data to Michigan’s statewide monitoring system (Metrc) as required by law. Customer personally identifiable information is not included in these regulatory reports except as specifically required by the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency.

Data Retention. Customer records are retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which they were collected, comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, and support our legitimate business operations. You may request information about the data we hold about you by contacting us at the address listed at the top of this policy.

Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
